For most of my clients, the senior photoshoot is the first photo shoot they’ve ever done - especially solo! I hear a lot of concerns about not knowing how to pose, not knowing how to do a photoshoot, etc. While photoshoots might seem intimidating at first, your senior session should be an easy and stress-free time for you to be yourself and have fun! It’s a lot easier to walk into a session when you feel confident about the process, so in this blog, I have detailed what you can expect for your senior photo session with me.

Good news! In order to have a successful photoshoot, most of the responsibility is on my end.

Some even more good news - capturing seniors behind the lens is one of my favorite things to do and a task that I am very confident in. During our time together, you can expect high levels of energy, lots of silly jokes, and probably some squeals as I snap photos. I will give you prompts and let you know what to do with your hands so don’t worry about not knowing how to pose! I love to incorporate a mix of candid and camera-aware photos and will guide you through every step of the way.

There are a couple things I especially pay attention to (so you can just enjoy yourself):

My first priority is open shade - I want to ensure that you won’t be squinting and the light hitting you will be soft and beautiful. This can be done at almost any time of day, but lighting is especially soft within 2 hours of sunrise or sunset. This is most likely the timeframe your session will take place.

During your session, I try avoiding distracting backgrounds. Things like distracting objects or cluttered areas take the focus away from you. I’ll also watch for people or cars passing by behind you while we’re shooting. I may pause and wait for them to move so we won’t have them photobombing your photos.

Rest assured, I will put my whole heart and effort into your senior photos, so you can just relax and enjoy the experience! I'll take care of the little details, backgrounds, and prompts. So no need to worry, all YOU need to do is be yourself.
